During reproduction, your genetic blueprint is passed onto your children. That genetic material is contained within your DNA. Genes separate and are organized into gametes through meiosis, and are combined in the process of fertilization. We can use Medelian principles and genetic analysis to track the inheritance of genes and genetic disorders in a population. The change in the genetic profile of a population or species over the span of many generations is called evolution.
